We have two studios;
The rehab studio is an equipment based studio designed for rehab. This is more suitable for pregnant ladies who have pain or want to have individualised programs, our postnatal mums that have more specific rehab requirements and anyone who wants to experience the benefits and fun of using pilates equipment (reformer pilates and cadillac) and get some more resistance into their programs. Rehab sessions will be run by our physiotherapists and will attract a rebate on private health insurance; code 560. A physio consultation is a prerequisite if you are new to the clinic to set up an individualised program, book online under 'Rehab Studio Assessment'.
The movement studio is mat and small equipment based pilates classes designed for strengthening, movement for our fit and healthy population, they include pregnancy and postnatal classes, pilates and we hope to offer more as we grow! The sessions will most often not be eligible for private health rebates but you can discuss with our friendly team your specific situation and health cover.
The Rehab Studio;
Rehab sessions are ideal for anyone who has an injury, specific rehab requirements or those who just want a bit more attention to detail when they exercise!
If you have seen one of our physios, it’s likely that they will make your program, alternatively an initial 1:1 rehab/physio appointment may be required. Your physio may suggest review sessions 1:1 to progress your program and make changes as you progress so you can get used to new exercises before going back to the class.
Rehab:
Your physiotherapist will set up an individualised program for you and you will work your way round each piece of equipment in our studio. Up to 4 people in a session. Health fund code 560.
The Movement Studio;
Pilates;
A mat based class using body weight and some small equipment, small class sizes for good quality instruction so we are able to meet your specific needs. Varying levels. Some of these classes are suitable for pregnancy too and some are also kid friendly!
Mums and bubs:
Bring your babies to sessions and focus on some postnatal rehab. Suitable until your babies are moving. Beginner to intermediate level with options for all exercises so you can choose your level of ability.
Gold Pilates;
A mat based class for over 50s using body weight and some small equipment, small class sizes for good quality instruction so we are able to meet your specific needs. We focus on Mobility, Strength and Balance.
Low impact circuit:
Strength and fitness based circuit for those returning to exercise after having a baby or having surgery, suitable for those with pelvic floor issues and prolapse.
Why Pilates?
Pilates is a great form of exercise for pregnant and postnatal populations because it is low impact and has great focus on strength, control and mobility, all 3 of which are adversely affected by carrying and delivering a baby! It is a safe exercise to start at any point in pregnancy (with consent from your GP or obstetrician) and 6-10 weeks after birth- we have to give our bodies a chance to rest and get our heads around life with a newborn after all!
What are physio rehab sessions?
Due to changes in private health insurance, pilates sessions are longer eligible for rebates. We have now introduced rehab sessions where you can work on rehabilitation for issues specific to you with a tailored program, this may be for progressive abdominal retraining after ab separation, some pelvic stability work post pregnancy and delivery or a conditioning program for getting back into exercise. These sessions will likely include some pilates informed exercises and all will include reformer and equipment based strengthening exercises.
1:1 sessions are most popular due to the high rebates, 1:4 has limited availability so please call ahead before booking an assessment.
What do assessments involve?
Assessments involve evaluation of your spinal mobility, alignment, ‘core strength’ and correct activation of the deep core. We will look at functional movements such as squats and single leg squats to see how your body is moving and which systems may require a little more work. We also like to have a thorough chat around your goals. Whilst we will have physio goals from evaluating your movements, we need to make sure we work on things that are important and relevant to you. We will start a few exercises in the first session to give you something to practice at home. The second session typically involves setting up specific exercises for you and going through the full program before you go to 1:1 or a rehab class. This allows for specificity and feedback to ensure we are getting it right.
How do classes work?
After the first session to assess you and set your program up, you have the option of continuing 1:1 classes or sharing with up to 5 others in rehab sessions, with feedback from the instructor on technique and progressions as able, with hands on therapy as needed.
Can I bring my baby?
Yes! Generally you will get more out of the session if you come alone (time to concentrate and some mummy down-time to refresh!) but you are more that welcome to bring your bub until they are moving. We will try to incorporate them into exercises with you to make the sessions better for you both. Once they are moving, there are options int the movement studio classes that are baby and toddler friendly.
